SEPA – the Single Euro Payments Area

The single European currency and a single set of payment instruments comprise the Single Euro Payments Area.

SEPA project represents the next step towards the single European market in which any customer throughout Europe will be able to make non-cash payments in an equally quick, safe and easy way as currently domestic payments.

Latvia, similar to the other SEPA countries, has launched the SEPA project.

In May 2010, Ltd. "Factum" conducted a population survey "Monetary and Banking System in Latvia", where bank account holders were asked a question on SEPA awareness. Majority of respondents (61%) had never heard about those new euro payment instruments, nevertheless it deserves appreciation that 37% of bank account holders had heard about SEPA.

SEPA credit transfer scheme rulebook;
SEPA core direct debit scheme rulebook;
SEPA business-to-business direct debit scheme rulebook.
